Tektronix had an Engineering Council in the late 1970s.   This article in the September 8, 1978 issue of TekWeek details the membership of the council.

This July 6, 1979 issue of TekWeek describes the 190 inventors honored at the first Inventor Recognition Banquet held on June 28th.  The patent recipients were recognized with a framed copy of their award letter and patent. Other awards were added to the annual Inventors Recognition Dinner and the event was renamed the Technical Excellence Banquet. Patent recipients were recognized with a leatherette portfolio with their award letter and patent.

The President's award was established to recognize new college graduates who made outstanding contributions in their first 5 years of their career.

The Software Leadership Award was established to recognize those who have made outstanding contributions to improving and championing the software development process.

The Manufacturing Technology Leadership Award was established to recognize those who developed critical manufacturing processes to deliver technically complex products at their cost, volume, and performance requirements.

The Howard Vollum award was instituted in 1987 after the death of founder Howard Vollum.  The award continues Howard's ideals and legacy by recognizing individuals at Tektronix whose contributions clearly exemplify engineering excellence in Howard's tradition and represents the highest level of engineering sustained over a period of time with considerable market success.  It is the lifetime achievement award for engineering at Tektronix and is not necessarily given out every year.  This photo shows the gorgeous crystal award.  It is no longer available from the vendor and so has been changed recently.

The Technical Excellence Awards banquet recognized patent and trade secret recipients and various engineering awards including the President's Award for significant achievement by new college hires, and the Howard Vollum lifetime achievement award. In 2001, the various engineering awards were reorganized around the four themes of the company - Strategy, Execution, Velocity, and People. Only the patent and trade secret recipients were included in the program since those were known prior to the banquet. This program also lists the executive staff and the Tektronix Fellows. In 2008, Tektronix established the honorary "Master Inventor" title for those individuals who have achieved 10 or more patents at Tektronix. This photo shows those individuals who had achieved this recognition at the 2008 Technical Excellence Awards banquet.

At this same 2008 Technical Excellence Awards banquet Patent, Trade Secret, and the Technical Excellence Award recipients were recognized. The theme for the event was Artists of Innovation.
