The Sales Master designation was instituted in 1978 to recognize outstanding field sales engineers.  The criteria is up to the top 10% of sales engineers over quota.  Application engineers, a later addition to the field sales force, are selected on a nomination basis for role models with significant contribution to sales.

We have a highlight video of the 1989 Tektronix Masters recognition on our Video Gallery.

These TekWeek articles featured of five Sales Masters chosen at random.  This November 15, 1985 TekWeek features Master Horace Morana.  Horace was hired in January 1978 to be a driver for the Tektronix Display Cruiser. He trained in Beaverton from January 1978 until May and then started his tour from Santa Clara, CA. He drove up north to Vancouver, B.C., Canada and toured for about 2 weeks and ended up in Calgary, Canada. From there he drove south and did a midwest tour through Texas. He finished his tour in November 1978 in Denver, CO.  After the tour he was hired by the Santa Clara office as a Sales Engineer.  Horace kindly sent us these photos of the Display Cruiser
