Tektronix has received a number of Emmys for its contribution to the television industry. Tektronix first Emmy award was in 1976 for "Leadership in development of equipment for verifying television performance in the vertical interval". This May 22, 1976 Oregonian article describes Charlie Rhodes accepting the Emmy and the impact Tektronix equipment had on the industry.

Tektronix second Emmy award was in 1984 for "Continued technical excellence and leadership in television test, measurement, and monitoring technology".  The museum has this Emmy on display at the museum.

The museum also has a copy of the program for the Emmy award presentation.  Click on the image to view the PDF.

The number of Emmys that Tektronix has received can be confusing.  Tektronix acquired Grass Valley Group in 1974 and divested of them in 1999.  Grass Valley Group acquired Dubner Computer Systems as a subsidiary in 1984 and eliminated the brand in 1991 through integration into Grass Valley Group. Tektronix acquired Lightworks in 1995 and divested of them in 1999.

We believe Tektronix has received a total of 13 Emmys, 9 for Tektronix, 3 for Grass Valley Group (while owned), and 1 for Dubner (while owned). The list is:

Tektronix
1976 for "Leadership in development of equipment for verifying television performance in the vertical interval".
1984 for "Continued technical excellence and leadership in television test, measurement, and monitoring technology"
1988 for "Digital intelligence in professional broadcast monitors"
1991 for "Development of test signals and measuring equipment for performance evaluation of component video systems"
1993 for "In-plant digital interconnection technology"
1996 for "Profile™ Professional Disk Recorder"
1998 for "Lightworks and Heavyworks multi-stream editing system" (Lightworks)
1999 joint with Thomcast for MTS100/200
2007 for "Real-time transport stream monitoring for ATSC & DVB conformance"

Dubner
1987 for "Colorization™ of black and white video"

Grass Valley Group
1990 for "E-MEM™ effects memory system"
1991 for "Kadenza™ digital picture processor"
1996 for "10 bit digital video interfaces"

Tektronix received an Emmy in 1988 for "Digital intelligence in professional broadcast monitors". We're not quite sure of what to make of this June 17, 1988 TekWeek article. It is clearly the third Emmy won by Tektronix and the 4th if you count the Dubner Emmy.

Grass Valley Group received an Emmy in 1990 for "E-MEM™ effects memory system".

This October 4, 1991 TekWeek features a Tektronix Emmy for "Development of test signals and measuring equipment for performance evaluation of component video systems" and a Grass Valley Group Emmy for "Kadenza™ digital picture processor".  Click on the image to view the PDF.

In 1999 Tektronix received a join Emmy for the MTS100/200. The MTS100 / 200 was jointly developed by Tektronix and the French company Thomcast. It ensured that MPEG-2 network components met the new compression standard. It was the first commercially available MPEG test system capable of creating and generating custom transport streams and providing detailed protocol analysis all in one unit.

In 2007 Tektronix received an Emmy for the "Real-time transport stream monitoring for ATSC & DVB conformance".

Come visit the museum to see the Emmy firsthand.  You can even take your picture with it!
