The TekXpress family was Tektronix second generation of X terminal. It focused on bringing down the cost of higher performance color. It was introduced in 1990. The Network Displays Division (NWD) was formed within Interactive Technologies Division (ITD, aka Wilsonville) to purse the new opportunities of thin client terminals. This was their first set of new products. X-windows had been added to the 4211 terminal but it was not optimized for this type of operation. It was wildly successful and took significant market share in the first 6 months.
