Katalin Karikó, mRNA, and a Tektronix Oscilloscope
Much has been written about Katalin Karikó. In the 1990s she pursued research on messenger RNA in the hopes of turning basic biology into medical breakthroughs. Her research is the foundation for mRNA coronavirus vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna. While a vast number of scientists and researchers have contributed to these vaccines, her work stands at the pinnacle.
This photo of Katalin Karikó in her home lab has been circulated on the web. We do not know the origin but notice the oscilloscope of choice - a Tektronix 465 or 475.
