This is our "tale of two Waldos". There were two employees named Waldo Johnson who worked at Tektronix. One was Waldo "E." and one was Waldo "A.". We've included both on this page as we believe we have sorted them out.
Waldo E. is in the 1970 photo album on page 82. Waldo A. is in the same album on page 262, indicating perhaps 1961 or 1962.
We believe Waldo E. Johnson was born September 25, 1925 and died July 26, 2007. He started at Tektronix on October 25, 1951 and retired on April 29, 1983.
We believe Waldo A. Johnson was born July 16, 1913 and died October 28, 2017 at age 104. Both are buried at Skyline Memorial Gardens.
This photo from the 1955 photo album simply shows Waldo in the shop, most likely at Sunset. The 1955 date indicates this is Waldo E.
Waldo is included in this photo showing the largest single order to date of thirty 511D oscilloscopes shipped to Hughes Aircraft in Culver City, California, on November 7, 1951 from the Sunset plant. The individuals are (left to Right) Paul Billes, Waldo Johnson, and Dale Holiday. This would also be Waldo E.
This July 1953 TekTalk article provides some of Waldo's experience prior to joining Tektronix. This would also be Waldo E.
This August, 20, 1971 TekWeek photo credits Waldo E. with life-saving skills learned at Tektronix.
The December 1973 phone directory lists Waldo A. in Mech. Comp. Eng Bldg 16 and Waldo E. in cast metals staff in Bldg 19. The November 1979 phone directory only lists Waldo E. in Metal Prod Control Staff in Bldg 16, indicating Waldo A was no longer an employee.
Waldo A. visited the vintageTEK museum on October 29, 2011 and was the oldest visitor we had to date. This photo of Waldo is hanging in the museum. A notice at Dignity Memorial states that Waldo A. Johnson died on October 28, 2017 at age 104, which corresponds with his age when he visited.
