High Mileage Package
An associate mailed a product to the museum from Ossining, NY to our street address of 13489 SW Karl Braun Dr, Beaverton, OR, 97077. That address is unusual because of the 97077 zip code. Due to the high volume of mail years ago, Tektronix was given their own 97077 zip code.
We generally ask people to mail items for the museum to one of our home addresses. The museum is not open regularly on weekdays so deliveries can be a problem. We try to intercept any packages to the museum to redirect them to a home address simply because we don't want them sitting outside our door until a volunteer can go in. Some companies, such as UPS, do not recognize that zip code so on-line accounts cannot be created to redirect. UPS seems unable or unwilling to help despite repeated attempts.
Most delivery companies simply ignore the street address and deliver all packages to incoming at Building 19. Incoming will then send it over to the Building 13 shipping dock for the museum.
This associate sent two packages with the same museum street address. One was delivered promptly to the museum. The other tracked up over twenty-seven thousand miles with USPS before it was delivered. It arrived in Portland five times before it was delivered. USPS suggested we intercept it and redirect it to a different address at a cost of $18. An intercept request can only be done on-line and their form did not accept our museum address either.
The package finally arrived after travelling at least twenty-seven thousand miles and didn't look too worse for wear.
The product inside was undamaged due to some great packaging.
Here is the the total tracking information of this incredible journey.
