Tek 31 Calculator at Portland Exhibit
In response to an announcement in The Oregonian newspaper about an upcoming Calculators Exhibit in Portland, a museum volunteer asked the organizer if they would like a Tektronix 31 calculator on loan for the event. Greg Maletic, a principal at Panic, Inc. responded favorably, The museum delivered it to the office of Panic in downtown Portland. Only 100 calculators from a collection of 250 were displayed, and with the small space, attendance was by scheduled reservation.
After the event, Greg sent this summary to all the attendees.
Thank you so much for attending! We had 250 people turn out for last weekend’s event — three times what I was hoping for. Amazing. It was gratifying seeing so many of you get the same satisfaction out of these calculators that I get: the joy of seeing beautifully designed objects; also, an opportunity to step back in time, to bask in decades-old aesthetics, colors, and shapes we rarely see anymore.
Greg said that many people asked about the Tektronix 31. The museum had 50+ business cards next to it, and nearly all were taken.
