A Most Unique 549 Application
A 549 was used in1967 by German parapsychologist Hans Bender to investigate disturbances in an office which reportedly only occurred when a certain young secretary was present. This was in Rosenheim in southern Bavaria and is known as the Rosenheim poltergeist claim. There is a fair amount of information and documentation of this available on the web.
A Tektronix 549 storage oscilloscope with a 1A4 four channel plug-in was used to explore these disturbances.
The 549 was wired to capture signals from line fluctuations of the mains AC, electrical fields, magnetic fields, and audio from a microphone. This diagram shows the original sketch from the notes of the setup with a chart recorder and oscilloscope.
This sketch shows the physical layout of the office and equipment (Kanzlei = Office, Gang = corridor, Empfangszimmer = Receptionist's office).
Rosenheim poltergeist claim is generally viewed as fraudulent but represents a most unusual application for a Tektronix oscilloscope.
